Ms Lin Pei-Yi will be performing a recital on the double bass. Here are the details:

I have heard Ms Lin Pei-Yi play on the double bass several times. I love the richness of the tone from her playing on the double bass.

The Chamber Players presents String Music by Italian Masters

For the lovers of double bass concertos, you may like to know that there will be a performance of Bottesini's Concerto for bass No. 2 in B minor in Singapore this February. The soloist for the double bass concerto will be Jacek Mirucki.

Where to buy a double bass in Singapore? Part 2

This post is an extension of a post, Where to buy a double bass in Singapore?, that was written about two years ago.

Some time ago, d'Bassists received an email that gave us a lead to Bass Loft, based in Singapore.

Bass Loft was created in 2005 to cater to the growing demands of double bass players in Singapore and Asia. This includes professionals as well as beginning students in orchestras and symphonic bands as young as 10 years old.

I visited the Bass Loft's website and read that it brings in quality double basses (e.g. Samuel Shen and Christopher). I have yet to play on or try any of the double basses from Bass Loft. If you have tried on one of its double basses, please do share your views and comments.

Paul Erhard Double Bass Recital

Paul Erhard Double Bass Masterclass

You may like to know that Paul Erhard, Associate Professor of Double Bass at the University of Colorando at Boulder, will be conducting a masterclass at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Singapore. This event is part of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory's Visiting Artist Series.

Conservatory double bass players of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, Double Bass Department, will be performing "an evening of operatic music, from arias to fantasies on themes".

Admission is free. Do support this event. It's not often that one can be treated to an entire evening of lovely music played on the double bass.

Andres Martin has recently put up a video on YouTube. The work is possibly known as "Piazzolla's Cafe, 1930". It is a guitar and double bass duet. If I had translated the Spanish words found on the description of the video correctly, it would read "Promotional video of the disc Del Flamenco al Tango".

I find this a beautiful piece of music and I particularly enjoyed listening to it during the quiet moments of the night. Enjoy!
