This post is an extension of a post, Where to buy a double bass in Singapore?, that was written about two years ago.

Some time ago, d'Bassists received an email that gave us a lead to Bass Loft, based in Singapore.

Bass Loft was created in 2005 to cater to the growing demands of double bass players in Singapore and Asia. This includes professionals as well as beginning students in orchestras and symphonic bands as young as 10 years old.

I visited the Bass Loft's website and read that it brings in quality double basses (e.g. Samuel Shen and Christopher). I have yet to play on or try any of the double basses from Bass Loft. If you have tried on one of its double basses, please do share your views and comments.

Double Bass for sale

A second-hand solid-wood Korean-made double bass that was purchased from Synwin Enterprise, Singapore, in the year 2000 is now for sale. The instrument has been played regularly and it now has a seasoned sound.

It is suitable for beginners to ABRSM Grade 8 candidates who need a seasoned solid-wood double bass that costs less than S$2000. It is also suitable for use in student orchestras, bands and string-ensembles. The double bass is now stringed with D'Addario Helicore Orchestral Strings. The instrument comes with the original French-style bow and the original invoice (warranty). Asking price is S$1800 (excludes shipping/ delivery charges).

You may like to know that Paul Erhard, Associate Professor of Double Bass at the University of Colorando at Boulder, will be conducting a masterclass at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Singapore. This event is part of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory's Visiting Artist Series.
