Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf's Double Bass Concerto No. 2 in E major
Giovanni Bottesini's Concerto No. 2 in B Minor for Double Bass and Piano
Frédéric Chopin's Cello Sonata in G minor, Op. 65
This is a very rare concert in Singapore when we can hear two well-known double bass concertos performed by a professional double bass player. Jacek Mirucki is a section double bassist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. He is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Poland. Subsequently, he continued his studies in Vienna under Ludwig Streicher at the Hochschule fur Music und darstellende Kunst.
This concert is made possible with the kind support of the Lee Foundation.
Tickets should be available at the door on the day of the concert.
My only hope is that the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art (NAFA) could schedule such public concert at a time which would make it more permissible for office workers like myself to attend it. Otherwise, it would be helpful to provide at least three months notice so that I could plan to take leave to attend the concert.
Overall, this is a worthy concert to support, and I wish I could be there.

"As our world becomes more and more globalized and migration increases, our identities as communities and individuals shift and change to the point where we are no longer sure of what defines us. Communities change as citizens have become more cosmopolitan and new migrants become influenced by their new surroundings and yet, the issues are not new.
Under the baton of Maestro Lim Soon Lee, the NUS Symphony Orchestra will explore the convictions of composers who have wrestled with this problem of cultural accommodation and preservation. The programme comprises Dvořák’s New World Symphony, Kodály’s Háry János Suite and Chen Gang and He Zhanhao’s Butterfly Lovers’ Violin Concerto. Award winning Singaporean violinist Foo Say Ming whose interpretation has been praised as accomplishing the fusion of Western and folk idioms will be featured in the concerto."
